June 16th Speaker Jerry’s Artarama

The speaker for June 16th, 2015 will be Scott Manning of Jerry’s Artarama. Sometimes they bring free door prizes so this is a meeting not to be missed!!!

Scott says, “As far as Biographical info, I have been at Jerry’s Knoxville as Director of Operations for more than 10 years. I am a Native of Knoxville  but I have moved a good deal in my career.

I am an artist working in Watercolor, Acrylics, Inks and Drawing. Currently I have started some work in Encaustic Painting.

I travel to many Schools and Universities including most Guilds in Tennessee doing Art materials Presentations.

I am also bringing Kaila Race with me to the presentation. She is the Store Manager with the local Tandy Leather Company in Knoxville. We are starting to partner on occasion due to the fact that so many Artist seem to know about and use their store in producing Art (including many of my staff).

She will just briefly introduce herself and what wares and services they provide as they relate to Artist in our community.

Hopefully we can provide a well rounded presentation.

I typically speak about new or newer materials currently of interest.

Thanks,

Scott Manning”

Challenge for June

the painting challenge for June is : Chiaroscuro (English pronunciation: /kiˌɑːrəˈskjʊər/; Italian: [kjarosˈkuːro]; Italian for light-dark) in art is the use of strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. It is also a technical term used by artists and art historians for the use of contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modelling three-dimensional objects and figures.[1] Similar effects in cinema and photography also are called chiaroscuro. March Meeting Success!

Twenty five people signed in for TAA’s meeting last night – many wearing green for St. Patrick’s day! Dozens of paintings were shown for the themes of Spring and Abstract (left over from February because of the snow that canceled February’s meeting). Artists commented briefly on their piece – some enjoying the experience of abstraction and willing to try it again sometime, and others not crazy about doing any more abstract paintings at all! Elden Elmer presented an interesting program about the history of TAA and then all adjourned to socialize over the refreshments.
